I've just installed NetMRG following the instructions, setup several devices, but the rrd graphs appear empty (all zeros).

RRD seems to work, since the graphs appear, only with all zeros.

SNMP seems to work, since the uptimes and iface caches are filled with data.

What seems suspicious is the /usr/local/netmrg/var/lib/netmrg/rrd has only the zero.rrd file. Isn't it supposed to be filled with rrd files?

The ownership of this directory is the same as the user the netmrg-gatherer is running (yoda):

Code:

total 72
drwxr-xr-x  2 yoda root    72 2005-05-10 15:43 .
drwxr-xr-x  3 root root    72 2005-05-10 15:43 ..
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 71580 2005-05-10 15:43 zero.rrd

What does create the rrd files? Are they created once and never checked? (say, if for some reason the gatherer was unable to create them in the beginning, will it try again in the future?)

I assume php is not creating files anywhere, since its permissions are probly nobody.

The log files and running the gatherer with -sm flags does not report any error.

So I'm pretty clueless here...

can anyone give me directions on what shall I check next?[/code]

The gatherer will try to make the RRDs if they need to be made (ie, they don't exist) every time it runs, so that shouldn't be a problem.
If you need more errors from netmrg-gatherer, run with the '-a' option (the '-s' is for "safe" for posting on this website).
Have you created some graphs yet (Groups -> <your device> -> <subdevice -> <list of monitors>)? The interface graphs should be the easiest to create out of the tutorial.
If you don't see anything obvious from running 'netmrg-gatherer -a', post the output of 'netmrg-gatherer -sa' here (not the "safe" option).

The problem was that I deleted the Template Group. I droped all tables from the database, reloaded it from the defaults, reconstructed the device tree, and it all seems to be working fine.

Therefore, never ever delete the template group! I wrongly thought it was some kind of example, but it is essential for the templating machinery to work.
