I just installed NetMRG and am not seeing the pictures. I used the RPM. Also, the rrd/ dir is empty. I went through the steps on setting up a group and all that crap and though I'm not sure what to put for the SNMPv1 community I added "ifInOctets.%ifIndex%" so that's probably wrong. Anyway the graph isn't showing up for the lan traffic graphs, which are the only graphs I've set up thus far.
Also, [root@localhost rrd]# netmrg-gatherer -c1023 -l1023
netmrg-gatherer: relocation error: /usr/lib/libmysqlclient.so.10: symbol errno, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference |

For SNMP v1 and v2c, your community string is commonly something like 'public' unless you've configured it.
The libmysqlclient error definitly looks bad. What version of RedHat are you using? Are you using stock RedHat rpms or others?
Hopefully we can get stuff figured out. Thanks for your help.

| I'm using Redhat 9. The RPMs installed are default RPMs from Redhat and other various groups which put out their own for their softwares. MYSQL was installed via RPMs and is the latest release by Redhat. |

Could you do a
| Code: |
| rpm -qa | grep -i mysql |
and post the results?
Also, did you do a fresh Red Hat install or did you upgrade from a previous version?
Some preliminary reading indicates that re-installing the mysql-devel RPM might fix this problem, if you want to try that first.
Good luck, and let us know the results.

Okay; the MySQL-shared package looks bad. That looks like its from a MySQL provided RPM. Try..
| Code: |
rpm -e MySQL-shared
|
RPM should complain if anything depends on it, but everything should be supplied by Red Hat's 'mysql' package:
| Code: |
[silfreed@aero silfreed]$ rpm -qf /usr/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.so.10
mysql-3.23.56-1.9
|
Let us know how that goes. Don't try that 'rpm -e' if you don't feel comfortable with it; it just looks out of place from my experience w/ Red Hat boxes. |

Well it worked that time. Thing is I'm not getting data into my Network Interface at this point. Could you supply me with some quick default instructions to get eth0 and eth1 monitored on different graphs? Or is that possible?
Also, I was messing around with my NOTWORKING (in the sense of no data) Interface monitor so I clicked RECACHE INTERFACES under the Group or whatever and nothing came up, a page loaded but it didn't show me anything though it seemed to have spots where data should have been displayed under different columns. |

I just noticed that....However I don't know how to start SNMP, I installed it from RPMs and I believe it was NET-SNMP. Could you suggest ways for me? |

After I can solve the graphs not displaying data, is there a way (simple, not hard as heck) to get separate graphs for eth0(also ppp0) and eth1(in/out of lan to wan)?

Ok, I think your SNMP config needs tweaked.
Try changing the "subtree" to ".1" instead of the default, which I think is "system." Here is what that section of my snmpd.conf looks like:
| Code: |
####
# First, map the community name "public" into a "security name"
# sec.name source community
com2sec notConfigUser default public
####
# Second, map the security name into a group name:
# groupName securityModel securityName
group notConfigGroup v1 notConfigUser
group notConfigGroup v2c notConfigUser
####
# Third, create a view for us to let the group have rights to:
# name incl/excl subtree mask(optional)
view systemview included .1
####
# Finally, grant the group read-only access to the systemview view.
# group context sec.model sec.level prefix read write notif
access notConfigGroup "" any noauth exact systemview none none
|
It should be easy to graph each individual interface (should be able to click Monitor/Graph on the Interface Cache page). If you're trying to graph traffic that flows in a specific path (not just through a specific interface), then that could get much harder.
Let us know how things turn out.

Still nothing and I changed the name to .1.3.6.1.2.1.1 to reflect the configuration file.
| Code: |
com2sec notConfigUser default public
group notConfigGroup v1 notConfigUser
group notConfigGroup v2c notConfigUser
view systemview included .1.3.6.1.2.1.1
view systemview included .1.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.1 |
Also it seems that i was netgathering and something went wrong with my connection so umm it's now "locked." Where's the lock file to remove? What sort of path within netmrg? And possibly the name to "locate." |

NetMRG keeps all its lockfiles and output info in the log directory. For the RPM, this should be in /var/log/netmrg, and in your case, /var/log/netmrg/lockfile (just 'rm' it and you should be good).
Running the netmrg_cron.sh script will also take care of this for you, but is normally meant to be run from cron.
Also, I think Brady meant that your community string will remain 'public', but modify the line that says:
| Code: |
view systemview included .1.3.6.1.2.1.1
view systemview included .1.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.1
|
to just be
| Code: |
view systemview included .1
|
and restart snmp (service snmpd restart).
Doing a 'recache interfaces' for the device should then show eth0, eth1, and if you're ppp session is up, ppp0. You can then just click 'graph/monitor' next to each interface and it'll start gathering (this takes about 10 minutes before graphs w/ data show up). In the device tree, open up your group (click on the name), then there should be an orange graph next to your device. Click on that to view your interface traffic.[/quote] |

| Well it seems to be working (still waiting on the 10 minutes to pass to see graphs working). Is there a way to have a page that can show up with graphs without going through all of the Device kinda stuff so that I can put them up for public access by going to just one specific page? |

| The view page (which is what you see when you click the orange graph icons on the Device Tree page) is bookmarkable/linkable. Those viewing the graphs will still need to log into NetMRG, but it should then redirect them to the page they tried to go to. |
